Beijing Conference Charts New Course for Digital Innovation
At the 14th China Intellectual Property Annual Conference, officials unveiled sweeping measures to protect data as intellectual property, revealing the nation produced 41.06 zettabytes of data in 2024 – equivalent to 13 million high-complexity animated films like 'Ne Zha 2.' This staggering figure represents 26.67% of global data output, underscoring China's pivotal role in shaping digital economy standards.
Building the Framework for Tomorrow's Economy
With over 8,000 participants from 30+ countries, the 'IP in the Digital Age' themed conference focused on balancing innovation with protection. China's digital economy now contributes over 10% of GDP, supported by a data market exceeding 160 billion yuan ($22.4 billion) in transactions. 'We're creating an IP system that adapts to intelligent networking needs while securing innovation foundations,' said Hu Wenhui of China's National Intellectual Property Administration.
From Pilot Programs to Global Impact
Since 2021 trials in 17 regions, China has processed 58,000 data IP applications with 90% coming from enterprises. The initiative has generated over 10 billion yuan in financing, with data registrations spanning 83 economic sectors. Liang Xinxin, a senior IP official, noted: 'Manufacturing and tech services lead registrations, showing how data drives real-world productivity.'
As cross-border data flows reshape global commerce, China's evolving IP framework aims to set benchmarks for secure innovation in AI, biotech, and smart manufacturing – key areas attracting international investors and tech collaborators.
