China honored 30 fallen soldiers of the Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPV) in a solemn burial ceremony in Shenyang on Saturday, marking the latest repatriation of remains from the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-1953). The emotional event drew representatives from across Chinese society to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the conflict.
The remains arrived in Liaoning Province aboard a People’s Liberation Army Air Force Y-20 transport aircraft following a handover ceremony in the Republic of Korea (ROK). A traditional “water salute” welcomed the aircraft at Shenyang Taoxian International Airport, symbolizing respect for the fallen heroes.
This repatriation marks the 10th consecutive year of cooperation between China and the ROK in returning CPV remains. Over 900 soldiers’ remains have been returned since 2014 through this bilateral effort. The ceremony coincided with the 71st anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement, underscoring its historical significance.
“These martyrs demonstrated the spirit of defending peace and resisting aggression,” stated a Chinese veterans’ affairs official during the ceremony. The event included a 21-gun salute and the playing of China’s national anthem, with attendees laying flowers at the Shenyang Martyrs’ Cemetery.
The repatriation process highlights evolving China-ROK relations while preserving historical memory. Analysts note such exchanges contribute to regional stability, offering opportunities for reflection on conflict resolution and cross-border cooperation in Northeast Asia.
