Beijing Unveils AI-Driven Digital Infrastructure Plan at CIFTIS 2025

Beijing is doubling down on its ambition to lead the global artificial intelligence revolution, unveiling a three-pronged strategy to supercharge its digital infrastructure at the 2025 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS). The plan positions China's capital at the forefront of technological innovation while supporting national efforts to optimize resource distribution through the landmark 'East Data, West Computing' project.

Building the Backbone of Tomorrow's Economy

Senior official Sun Lixin outlined Beijing's roadmap, starting with aggressive 5G network expansion and experimental 10-gigabit optical networks. The city plans to strategically position computing centers to maximize AI-specific processing power – a critical move as global demand for advanced computing resources surges.

Smart Governance Meets Industrial Transformation

Beyond physical infrastructure, authorities aim to modernize industry oversight and cultivate emerging technologies. The 'AI+' action plan promises deep integration of artificial intelligence across manufacturing sectors, combining industrial internet systems with cutting-edge AI models to drive operational efficiency.

Powering a National Vision

These developments align with China's broader 'East Data, West Computing' initiative, which has established eight national computing hubs since 2022. By relocating data processing to western regions rich in renewable energy, the project addresses both environmental concerns and regional development gaps while creating a more robust national network.

As Beijing accelerates its digital transformation, the CIFTIS announcements signal China's determination to shape global tech standards while balancing economic growth with sustainable development.
