The 12th Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF) opens in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, on September 22, bringing together filmmakers from 135 countries and regions to celebrate cinematic collaboration and cultural exchange. This year's theme, "Silk Road Connects the World, Film Festival Illuminates Fuzhou," emphasizes cross-border partnerships and cross-strait cultural ties.
Global Collaboration Takes Center Stage
With over 3,500 submissions and 100 selected films from 44 countries, the festival highlights Indonesia as its guest of honor, marking 75 years of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations. Attendees will explore co-production opportunities through forums and exhibitions, while nine international film festivals sign "sister festival" agreements with SRIFF. A new Cambodia Asia Film Festival office in Fuzhou aims to strengthen regional cultural ties.
Cross-Strait Cultural Bridge
Fuzhou's role as a cultural gateway between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region is amplified through dedicated programming. A first-ever cross-strait film section features AI competitions, short film showcases, and project pitches for young filmmakers. Organizers stress these initiatives aim to foster collaboration with Taiwan film professionals working in Fujian.
Golden Silk Road Awards Unveiled
Chinese director Chen Kaige chairs the international jury selecting winners across 10 categories, including Best Film and Best Director. The awards ceremony on September 26 will cap five days of screenings, industry talks, and cultural events attended by 400 global guests.
