Xinjiang Grand Bazaar Booms with Record Summer Tourism

The Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar in Urumqi has become a magnet for cultural enthusiasts and travelers this summer, with daily foot traffic surpassing 200,000 visitors for more than 30 consecutive days. The sprawling marketplace in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region offers a vibrant blend of traditional Uygur crafts, aromatic local cuisine, and live folk performances, creating an immersive experience that reflects the region's rich Silk Road heritage.

Tourism authorities attribute the surge to enhanced infrastructure and promotional campaigns highlighting Xinjiang's cultural diversity. Vendors report a 40% year-on-year increase in sales of handwoven textiles, dried fruits, and musical instruments. "This isn't just commerce – it's a living museum of cross-cultural exchange," said Zhao Wei, Director of Urumqi’s Tourism Bureau.

The bazaar’s success aligns with China's broader efforts to boost domestic tourism and cultural preservation. Analysts note its role in fostering economic opportunities for local residents while showcasing the Chinese mainland’s ethnic diversity to international visitors.
