China Establishes Huangyan Dao National Nature Reserve in South China Sea

China's State Council approved the creation of the Huangyan Dao National Nature Reserve on Wednesday, marking a significant step toward preserving one of the South China Sea's most ecologically vital areas. The reserve aims to safeguard marine biodiversity and maintain the stability of local ecosystems through enhanced conservation measures.

Located approximately 340 nautical miles from the Chinese mainland, Huangyan Dao hosts unique coral reefs, rare fish species, and migratory seabirds. Officials emphasized the initiative aligns with China's commitment to ecological civilization and sustainable development goals.

Environmental experts say the move could foster international collaboration on marine research while addressing climate resilience challenges. The reserve's establishment also opens opportunities for eco-friendly tourism and scientific partnerships, though access details remain under discussion.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Ecology and Environment stated: "Protecting Huangyan Dao's natural heritage benefits both regional ecological security and global biodiversity conservation efforts."
