China commemorated the 80th anniversary of its victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War with a solemn yet vibrant gala at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People. The event highlighted China’s pivotal role as the Eastern theater’s main battlefield during the global conflict, featuring multimedia presentations revisiting key historical moments from 1931 to 1945.
Attendees included senior Chinese leaders, war veterans aged 90 to 101, and representatives from various social sectors. The program blended orchestral performances, historical reenactments, and poetry recitals honoring wartime sacrifices. A poignant segment showcased letters written by soldiers to their families, read aloud by contemporary military personnel.
“This commemoration reminds us that peace remains humanity’s most precious treasure,” said a 98-year-old veteran during the event.
The gala concluded with a symbolic “Light of Peace” ceremony, projecting doves and olive branches across the hall’s dome. Analysts note the event underscores China’s emphasis on historical continuity as it navigates modern global challenges.
