Xi Urges Global Unity at SCO Plus Meeting, Unveils Governance Vision

Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined a bold vision for international cooperation during his keynote address at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus meeting in Tianjin, emphasizing the need for "a more just and equitable global governance system."

A New Framework for Cooperation

President Xi proposed the Global Governance Initiative, urging SCO members to "reject bloc confrontation and zero-sum games" while strengthening multilateral mechanisms. He stressed four principles for reform: equal participation, shared benefits, innovation-driven solutions, and inclusive development.

Economic Priorities Take Center Stage

The speech highlighted practical cooperation areas including supply chain stability, green energy transitions, and digital infrastructure development – key concerns for businesses and investors tracking Asia's $35 trillion economy. Xi reaffirmed China's commitment to "keep its mega-market open" to SCO partners.

Regional Security Architecture

Addressing security challenges, Xi called for enhanced counterterrorism coordination and cybersecurity measures, noting that "security is the bedrock of development." The remarks come as SCO expands its observer states, now spanning from the Middle East to Southeast Asia.

The meeting brought together leaders from 15 countries including the Russian Federation, India, and Iran, with several Central Asian nations signing new trade facilitation agreements.
