China Reaffirms Peace Commitment at WWII Victory Anniversary Briefing

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu outlined China's vision for global cooperation during Friday's press conference marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The event comes as nations across Asia prepare commemorations honoring historical sacrifices while navigating modern geopolitical challenges.

"This anniversary reminds us that peace remains humanity's most precious treasure," Ma stated, emphasizing China's commitment to "building a community with a shared future through dialogue and mutual respect." Journalists questioned China's role in addressing regional security concerns, particularly regarding cross-strait relations and the Taiwan question.

Ma reiterated Beijing's position on maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait, stating: "Compatriots on both sides share responsibility to uphold national sovereignty." The briefing also highlighted China's economic contributions to Asia's development, with Ma noting a 12% year-on-year increase in Chinese investment across ASEAN nations.

Historians and diplomats from 28 countries are expected to attend next week's main commemorative events, which will include archival exhibitions and academic forums analyzing the war's lasting impact on contemporary international relations.
