China, South Korea Strengthen Ties in High-Level Talks

Beijing Meeting Focuses on Strategic Cooperation, Historical Commemoration

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng met with Park Byeong-seug, special envoy of Republic of Korea (ROK) President Lee Jae-myung, in Beijing on Tuesday, signaling renewed commitment to bilateral cooperation. The discussions centered on implementing previous agreements between leaders and enhancing economic and diplomatic coordination.

Shared Historical Legacy

Han emphasized the significance of 2023 marking dual 80th anniversaries: the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the liberation of the Korean Peninsula. He called for joint efforts with the ROK and international partners to preserve WWII historical outcomes and strengthen multilateral frameworks.

ROK's Strategic Priorities

Park reaffirmed Seoul's commitment to the one-China principle and expressed willingness to revitalize the China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership. Both sides agreed to prioritize mutual economic benefits and people-centered diplomacy under existing leadership agreements.

The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation for cultural exchanges and technological collaboration opportunities, though specific action plans remain under discussion.
