Israeli Airstrikes in Yemen’s Capital Leave Six Dead, Dozens Injured

The death toll from Israeli airstrikes on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, has risen to six, with 86 others wounded, according to a statement from the Houthi-run health ministry on Monday. Among the injured are seven children and three women, with 21 reported in critical condition. Officials warned the toll could increase as rescue operations continue.

Sunday's strikes targeted fuel stations, power plants, and the presidential palace complex, which the Houthis claim were civilian facilities. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz confirmed the military action, stating the attacked sites were used for military purposes. Israeli state media reported 14 warplanes dropped approximately 40 bombs during the operation.

The Houthis condemned the strikes as "brutal aggression" and accused both Israel and the U.S. of responsibility for the casualties. The group vowed retaliation, escalating tensions in a conflict that began in November 2023 when the Houthis launched attacks on Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. This latest strike follows a Houthi hypersonic missile attack on Tel Aviv two days prior, which caused property damage but no fatalities.

The Houthis, who control northern Yemen including key infrastructure like Hodeidah port, have intensified cross-border strikes amid Israel's ongoing military campaign in Gaza. Analysts warn the cycle of retaliation risks further destabilizing regional security and energy supply routes.
