China-South Korea Event Honors WWII Legacy, Calls for Peace

Seoul became a stage for cross-border solidarity as the 'Echoes of Peace' cultural exchange event brought together Chinese and South Korean leaders on Thursday. Co-hosted by China Media Group, the China Cultural Center in Seoul, and South Korea's National Memorial of the Provisional Government, the gathering marked the 80th anniversary of victories in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

In video remarks, CMG President Shen Haixiong emphasized the enduring lessons of history: 'The spirit of unity that defeated fascism remains vital today as we face global challenges.' Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Dai Bing reinforced commitments to bilateral cooperation, stating both nations must 'stay true to the original aspiration of diplomatic ties' and strengthen their strategic partnership.

The event attracted over 200 political, academic, and cultural figures, including former South Korean National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo, who praised the initiative as 'a bridge for deepening friendship.' A highlight of the program features screenings of Chinese and South Korean resistance-themed films, described by organizers as 'artistic time capsules preserving our shared struggle for peace.'

Attendees observed that the commemoration comes at a pivotal moment for Asia-Pacific relations, with multiple speakers underscoring the need to transform historical camaraderie into contemporary collaboration. As dusk fell on Seoul's memorial sites, the mingling of Mandarin and Korean conversations among departing guests seemed to echo the event's central theme – that peace thrives when memories are honored and partnerships nurtured.
