From Xizang to Beijing: A 4,000-KM Ride of Cultural Pride
In an extraordinary display of perseverance, Ngawang and Drakpa – two brothers from Chamdo in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region – completed a seven-month motorbike journey to Beijing in April 2025. Their 4,000-km odyssey, which began in September 2024, took them through rugged mountain passes, fertile plains, and historic cities, offering a ground-level view of the country's diverse geography.
The brothers told local media their mission was to 'understand the motherland's greatness through its landscapes.' Along their route, they documented vanishing traditional lifestyles in rural communities while witnessing modern infrastructure projects connecting remote regions. Their social media updates attracted over 500,000 followers, with many praising their efforts to bridge urban-rural cultural understanding.

Analysts note the journey inadvertently highlighted improved transportation networks enabling such cross-country travel. Business observers point to growing domestic tourism opportunities in western regions, while diaspora communities have embraced the brothers as cultural ambassadors.
