China, Vietnam Strengthen Ties in Strategic Talks

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son convened in Anning, Yunnan Province, on Thursday, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation amid global economic and geopolitical shifts. The meeting, held ahead of the tenth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting, highlighted shared goals in trade, technology, and regional stability.

Solidarity in Shared Vision

Wang emphasized the historical bond between the two nations as "comrades and brothers," rooted in mutual support and aligned socialist modernization paths. He called for building a "China-Vietnam community with a shared future" to navigate unprecedented global challenges, stressing opposition to unilateralism and protectionism.

Economic Collaboration in Focus

Both sides pledged to expand trade, with China committing to facilitate Vietnamese agricultural imports and support Vietnamese trade agencies on the Chinese mainland. Wang highlighted opportunities in emerging sectors like AI, digital economies, and commercial aviation, urging Vietnam to foster a favorable environment for Chinese investors.

Roadmap for Future Cooperation

Son outlined Vietnam’s priorities, including enhanced high-level exchanges, railway connectivity, and sci-tech innovation. He emphasized solidarity on multilateral platforms to safeguard regional peace, particularly in the South China Sea. The leaders also discussed preparations for upcoming diplomatic engagements in the latter half of 2024.

The talks underscore growing alignment between the two neighbors as they seek to balance economic resilience with strategic autonomy in a rapidly evolving Asia.
