China Smashes Finswimming Relay Record at Chengdu World Games

China's women's finswimming team made history at the 2025 Chengdu World Games on Monday, setting a new world record in the surface relay 4x50m event with a blistering time of 1:07.99. The quartet of Shu Chengjing, Xu Yichuan, Xie Wenmin, and Hu Yaoyao delivered a dominant performance, building on their previous 4x100m relay victory to complete a golden double.

"This result exceeded all our expectations," said veteran swimmer Xu Yichuan, reflecting on the team's relentless training. "We focused on perfecting every baton exchange – even shaving 0.1 seconds mattered." The athletes credited roaring hometown support at the Sichuan Provincial Aquatic Center for powering their record-breaking swim.

Hungary's Nandor Kiss electrified the pool with his own world record in the men's surface 200m, while Ukraine's Sofiia Hrechko dominated the women's surface 400m with a new global benchmark of 3:11.88. The two-day competition saw seven world records fall across multiple disciplines.

Medal standings revealed Hungary leading with five golds, followed by Germany and Ukraine. China's two gold medals highlight growing competitiveness in aquatic sports, with the World Games serving as crucial preparation for upcoming international competitions.
