UN Chief Condemns Killing of Palestinian Journalists in Gaza

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the killing of six Palestinian journalists in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City, calling for an independent investigation into the incident. The attack, which occurred on Sunday, brings the total number of media workers killed in the conflict to at least 242 since hostilities began, according to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.

"These latest killings highlight the extreme risks journalists continue to face when covering this ongoing war," Dujarric stated during a Monday briefing. He emphasized Guterres' demand for accountability and reiterated that journalists "must be respected and protected" while reporting in conflict zones.

The UN chief’s appeal underscores growing international concern over press freedom in Gaza, where media workers operate under constant threat. Analysts warn that the erosion of journalistic safety could hinder global understanding of the conflict’s humanitarian impact.

This development comes as humanitarian organizations report worsening conditions in Gaza, with calls mounting for renewed diplomatic efforts to address both civilian protections and press rights.
