Cambodia's aviation authority has enacted emergency flight restrictions over active conflict zones near the Thai border, escalating safety measures as military tensions enter their fourth day. The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) announced Saturday that all aircraft must avoid airspace above Poipet City, Pailin province, and parts of Siem Reap province while maintaining altitudes above 1,200 meters.
SSCA spokesperson Sinn Chanserey Vutha confirmed international routes between Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Bangkok remain operational through adjusted flight paths. "These precautions prioritize passenger safety while maintaining critical air connectivity," Vutha stated in an official audio briefing.
The measures follow renewed clashes between Cambodian and Thai forces across Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, and Pursat provinces since Thursday. Cambodian Defense Ministry spokesperson Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata reported expanding conflict zones during a Saturday press conference, while Thai media outlets described exchanges of artillery fire near disputed border areas.
Aviation analysts note the restricted airspace primarily affects domestic flights and low-altitude operations, with major international carriers already rerouting through approved corridors. The SSCA continues to monitor developments through its Phnom Penh Flight Information Region control center.
