China Warns Taiwan Independence Moves Risk Cross-Strait Stability

China's defense ministry has issued a stern warning against escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait, stating that military posturing by pro-independence forces will 'only lead to self-destruction.' Defense spokesperson Jiang Bin addressed concerns on Monday regarding both Taiwan's recent military developments and adjustments to civil aviation routes.

The remarks came amid questions about Taiwan's newly operational HIMARS rocket system, which Jiang characterized as part of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' attempts to 'sell Taiwan's interests to flatter the United States.' He emphasized that 'resisting reunification by force is a dead end,' asserting that such moves waste resources and endanger regional stability.

Separately, Jiang clarified that the Chinese mainland's activation of the W121 flight route connection – part of the M503 air corridor – represents standard aviation management practice. 'This adjustment benefits travelers and businesses across the Strait,' he noted, while criticizing DPP officials for allegedly exaggerating security concerns to limit cross-strait exchanges.

The spokesperson attributed current tensions to what he called the DPP's 'collusion with external forces' and 'provocative independence-seeking agenda.' He urged residents of Taiwan to recognize the risks of separatist policies and work collectively to maintain peace.

This development comes as regional analysts observe increased military activity in the Western Pacific, with cross-strait relations remaining a focal point in Asia's geopolitical landscape.
