The “Global Mayors Dialogue – SCO Summit Cities” event opened in Tianjin on Tuesday, bringing together over 350 delegates from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states including Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. The forum aims to strengthen collaboration on urban development, trade, and sustainability under the SCO framework.
Participants explored strategies to enhance cross-border connectivity, green energy transitions, and cultural tourism. Janesh Kain, deputy secretary-general of the SCO Secretariat, emphasized cities’ critical role in driving ecological protection and digital transformation during his keynote address. “Urban cooperation bridges national policies with grassroots innovation,” he stated, highlighting integrated transportation networks as a priority.
Discussions also focused on creating investment-friendly ecosystems and leveraging technology for smart city planning. The event marks a key step in implementing the SCO’s 2023-2027 development agenda, with Tianjin positioned as a testing ground for cross-regional infrastructure projects.
