Chengdu Countdown: World Games 2023 to Kick Off in 30 Days

With just one month remaining until the 12th World Games, Chengdu is finalizing preparations for its groundbreaking open-air opening ceremony at the Tianfu International Convention Center. The southwestern Chinese city will welcome athletes and spectators from August 7-17 through an event redefining traditional sports ceremonies.

Breaking from stadium conventions, organizers will utilize the convention center's outdoor space – a facility completed in 2021 as part of Chengdu's urban development plan. 'This isn't just about the Games, but showcasing our city's character,' said Huang Peiling, deputy director of ceremonies. 'Spectators on the surrounding grassland will experience Chengdu's blend of modernity and natural charm.'

The 90-minute opening program features a 15-minute artistic showcase developed through rehearsals since June, emphasizing sustainability through existing infrastructure. This approach aligns with China's growing emphasis on practical urban development, offering potential case studies for future international events.

Business analysts note the Games could boost Chengdu's profile as an emerging hub for sports tourism and convention economy, while cultural observers highlight its innovative presentation of Sichuan's heritage through contemporary formats.
