Shanghai's highly anticipated LEGOLAND Resort officially opened on July 5 following a month of trial operations, claiming the title of the world's largest LEGOLAND theme park at launch. The unveiling coincided with the commencement of this year's Shanghai Tourism Festival, positioning the attraction as a key driver for regional tourism and family entertainment.
Located in Jinshan District, the 318,000-square-meter resort features eight themed zones with over 40 interactive attractions. Park operators estimate potential access to 55 million residents within a three-hour travel radius, including Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
The development aligns with Shanghai's post-pandemic tourism recovery strategy, combining immersive LEGO experiences with cultural elements showcasing local architecture and traditions. Analysts suggest the park could generate annual revenue exceeding $300 million while creating 1,200 direct jobs.
"This project demonstrates Shanghai's commitment to becoming a global leisure tourism destination," said a spokesperson from the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism. The resort incorporates sustainable design features, including solar-powered facilities and water recycling systems.
