China Accuses U.S. of Escalating Iran Nuclear Crisis at UN Meeting

China's top UN diplomat has delivered a sharp rebuke to Washington over the Iran nuclear stalemate, accusing the United States of reigniting tensions through unilateral actions during a high-stakes Security Council session in New York.

Diplomatic Showdown at UN Headquarters

Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, stated Wednesday that recent U.S. military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities represent 'a dangerous escalation' undermining months of diplomatic efforts. The remarks came during an open Security Council debate attended by representatives from 15 member states.

From Agreement to Deadlock

Fu traced the current crisis to Washington's 2018 withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), noting subsequent sanctions had 'strangled Iran's economic breathing space.' The Chinese envoy argued this pressure campaign forced Tehran to scale back compliance with nuclear monitoring measures, creating a cycle of escalation.

Regional Stability at Risk

The diplomat warned that attacks on nuclear facilities set 'a perilous precedent' for non-proliferation efforts worldwide. Fu's statement emphasized Beijing's position that dialogue – not military action – remains the only viable path forward, calling for all parties to 'return to the negotiating table with urgency.'

This development comes as regional analysts express growing concern over potential supply chain disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy shipments.
