Mainland Condemns Taiwan Leader’s ‘Independence’ Speech as Provocative

A Chinese mainland spokesperson has strongly criticized Lai Ching-te, leader of the Taiwan region, for delivering what officials called a "blatant Taiwan independence manifesto" during a Sunday address. Chen Binhua of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office warned the speech risked inflaming cross-strait tensions through "lies, deception, and provocation."

Chen accused Lai of deliberately distorting historical narratives to advance separatist agendas, stating the remarks exposed the leader's "obstinate advocacy for Taiwan independence." The spokesperson emphasized the speech attempted to fabricate justifications for political gains through a proposed "mass recall" campaign.

"This was nothing but a jumble of fallacies riddled with errors," Chen said, asserting that Lai's rhetoric undermined regional stability. The remarks come amid heightened attention to cross-strait relations, with analysts noting increased diplomatic activity across the Taiwan Strait in recent months.
