China has successfully relocated 160 of its students from Israel through coordinated diplomatic efforts, Ambassador Xiao Junzheng confirmed to CGTN on Thursday. The evacuation comes as regional instability prompts heightened safety measures for foreign nationals.
"Our embassy hotline has fielded over 100 urgent requests since tensions escalated," said Xiao, revealing that approximately 260 Chinese students were registered in Israel before the crisis. Embassy staff are working around the clock to arrange temporary housing and repatriation flights through third countries.
While most evacuated students study STEM fields at Israeli universities, about 100 remain in secure campus housing. The diplomatic mission has distributed emergency supplies and established a real-time communication channel with all registered Chinese nationals, including 43 tourists and business professionals.
This operation highlights Beijing's growing capacity to protect overseas citizens through what analysts call "diplomatic mobilization" – a combination of rapid response networks and pre-established evacuation protocols. Similar operations were conducted during the 2022 Ukraine crisis and 2023 Sudan conflict.
For families separated by the emergency, the embassy has launched a dedicated verification portal. Xiao emphasized: "Our first priority is ensuring every Chinese national's safety, whether through evacuation or localized protection measures."
