WADA Chief Slams Enhanced Games as ‘Medically Unethical’ Risk

World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Director General Olivier Niggli has issued a stark warning about the controversial Enhanced Games, calling the proposed event "medically unethical" and "dangerous" during an exclusive interview with CGTN Sports Scene.

Health Risks and Ethical Concerns

"The moment you take these kind of substances, you risk a lot of side effects," Niggli stated, emphasizing the unknown long-term consequences of performance-enhancing drug use on healthy athletes. He criticized organizers for creating what he likened to a "Roman circus" that prioritizes spectacle over athlete welfare.

Impact on Youth and Global Response

The WADA official expressed particular concern about the event's potential influence on young people, revealing coordinated efforts with international sports federations to address the challenge. "This is against any medical ethics… Nobody cares [about athletes' safety]," Niggli added, condemning the normalization of pharmaceutical enhancement in sports.
