WADA VP Yang Yang Slams Enhanced Games Over Athlete Safety Concerns

World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Vice President Yang Yang has voiced strong opposition to the controversial Enhanced Games during an exclusive interview with CGTN Sports Scene, emphasizing the organization's commitment to safeguarding athletes' health and preserving Olympic values.

The Chinese mainland's first Winter Olympics gold medalist highlighted historical cases of athletes dying after using performance-enhancing substances, calling the proposed games – which would permit drug use – "a dangerous departure from ethical sportsmanship." Yang stressed that WADA's stance aligns with global sports organizations prioritizing athlete welfare over sensationalism.

"Sending the right message to young athletes matters more than temporary spectacle," Yang told interviewer Greg Laffradi, endorsing unified efforts to condemn the event. Her comments come as sports authorities worldwide debate balancing innovation with traditional athletic principles.

As winter sports gain popularity across Asia ahead of the 2026 Milano Cortina Games, Yang's warnings carry particular weight for developing sports markets. Analysts suggest this stance reinforces China's growing influence in shaping global sports governance frameworks.
