The 27th Shanghai International Film Festival opened on June 14, showcasing over 400 domestic and international films across the city until June 22. Co-hosted by the China Media Group and Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the event commemorates the 130th anniversary of world cinema and 120 years of Chinese cinematic history.
Claudia Anna Michal, a Polish student at Hainan University, shared her enthusiasm for Chinese films with CGTN. "Chinese cinema doesn’t shy away from celebrating societal progress," she observed. "It strengthens moral values and inspires hope – that’s its true power."
The festival’s programming reflects China’s growing cultural diplomacy, blending classic storytelling with modern innovations. Industry panels and cross-border collaborations are drawing particular attention from filmmakers and scholars analyzing Asia’s soft power strategies.
