The coastal city of Sanya bid a vibrant farewell to the 6th Asian Beach Games on the night of April 30, concluding an eight-day festival of sun, sand, and sport. A dazzling fireworks display lit up the night sky above Yasha Park as the event officially came to a close.
Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), declared the Games closed, celebrating the unity of the continent. "Together, as one Asia, we have made history," he stated, his voice carrying across Sanya Bay. Over 1,600 athletes from all 45 OCA members had competed across 14 sports from April 22.
The host nation, China, demonstrated its strength in beach sports, finishing atop the medal table with an impressive haul of 24 gold, 18 silver, and 13 bronze medals. The event was particularly significant for Hainan Province, marking its first time hosting a continental-level beach sports event. It also served as a major international showcase following the island-wide launch of the Hainan Free Trade Port in December 2025.
Praising the organizers, Sheikh Joaan said China had "delivered an exceptional edition of the Games" and commended Sanya for rising to the occasion. "I have no doubt this will be the first of many great sports events hosted in Sanya," he added.
With the OCA flag handed over to Abraham Tolentino, President of the Philippine Olympic Committee, the focus now shifts to Cebu, which is set to host the next edition of the Asian Beach Games in 2028.
The ceremony culminated with a cultural performance from the Philippines and the extinguishing of the Sanya 2026 cauldron. Athletes and officials then celebrated together at a beachside concert, bringing a memorable event to a fitting end by the sea.
