The Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo outlined an ambitious roadmap for economic cooperation during high-level talks in Beijing this week, as both nations seek to deepen industrial collaboration under China's Belt and Road Initiative.
At their April 23 meeting, Premier Li emphasized China's willingness to help Mozambique transform its natural resource advantages through enhanced industrial chain development. New initiatives will focus on expanding agricultural productivity, fisheries management, and energy infrastructure while leveraging China's zero-tariff policy for qualifying African goods.
'We stand ready to create more synergies between our development strategies,' Li stated, highlighting opportunities in telecom infrastructure and mineral resource development. The Chinese premier urged Mozambican authorities to utilize newly streamlined trade channels to increase market access for key exports.
President Chapo affirmed Mozambique's commitment to China's core interests, including support for 'national reunification' objectives. The African leader described current China-Africa collaboration as vital for navigating global uncertainties, endorsing President Xi Jinping's global development initiatives.
The nations agreed to establish joint working groups for priority sectors including renewable energy projects and emergency response coordination. This comes as Chinese investments in Mozambique's logistics corridors continue to expand, with over $3 billion allocated since 2020 for port modernization and transportation networks.
Both leaders emphasized the need for sustainable investment frameworks that protect business interests while creating local employment opportunities. The talks concluded with agreements to increase cultural exchanges and tourism promotion ahead of the 2027 Belt and Road Forum.
