In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, China's top legislator Zhao Leji and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith met in Beijing on Friday, pledging to deepen legislative exchanges and cooperation.
During the meeting, Zhao, Chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, highlighted that under the strategic guidance of the top leaders of both nations, China-Laos relations have reached their highest point in history. He emphasized China's commitment to implementing the strategic consensus reached by the top leadership of both parties and countries.
A central theme of the discussions was the joint effort to build a high-standard, high-quality, and high-level China-Laos community with a shared future. Zhao, who also serves as a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated that the NPC stands ready to expand multi-level and multi-sector cooperation with the Lao National Assembly. This includes focused exchanges on legislation and the rule of law to provide the necessary legal safeguards for the modernization of both countries.
President Thongloun expressed strong confidence in the enduring nature of the partnership, stating that the building of the Laos-China community with a shared future will continue to consolidate and grow regardless of how the international landscape evolves. He voiced his hope that the legislative bodies of both nations will continue to intensify their exchanges to further advance the comprehensive relations between China and Laos.
