Insurance Expansion for Digital Economy Workers
A landmark occupational injury insurance program, first introduced in 2022, now covers platform workers in ride-hailing, delivery services, and urban logistics across 17 provincial regions. Officials plan nationwide implementation by 2026, with potential expansion to other industries by 2027. This safety net addresses the unique risks faced by gig economy workers while supporting business innovation.
Legal Framework Strengthened
National Health Commission official Li Jun revealed China's comprehensive occupational health system now includes six major laws and 300+ technical standards. 'Our updated monitoring protocols and engineering controls represent global best practices in hazard prevention,' Li stated at a recent briefing. The legal framework mandates employer responsibilities including medical care, rehabilitation support, and regular health screenings for affected workers.
Tech-Driven Safety Solutions
Authorities have published 660+ technical standards since 2020, with nearly 100 focused on advanced engineering controls. These include real-time hazard monitoring systems and AI-powered workplace safety assessments being adopted in high-risk industries. The integration of smart technologies aims to reduce occupational disease incidence while maintaining industrial productivity.
