Tensions in the Middle East have escalated following a series of military exchanges between United States forces and Iran, centering on the strategic Strait of Hormuz and neighboring Gulf states.
According to a statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM), US forces intercepted multiple ballistic missiles and drones launched by Iran on June 5. The military operation began with the shoot-down of four Iranian one-way attack drones that were launched toward the Strait of Hormuz. Hours later, Iran fired seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain.
CENTCOM reported that six of those missiles were successfully intercepted, while the seventh failed to reach its intended target. Despite the volatility of the situation, the US military confirmed that there were no reports of harm to US personnel. Additionally, officials dismissed claims made by Iran regarding damage to the US 5th Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, labeling them as false.
On the other side of the conflict, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated on Saturday that the strikes against US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain were a response to previous US attacks. The IRGC further claimed to have fired upon four tankers that were attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz without the necessary permission.
The instability was felt across the region on Saturday, with air raid sirens sounding in Bahrain and Kuwaiti air defenses actively intercepting what authorities described as hostile missile and drone attacks. The situation remains fluid as both sides maintain a high state of alert in one of the world's most critical maritime corridors.
