Tragedy in San Diego
A devastating shooting occurred this past Monday at the Islamic Center of San Diego, leaving three men dead and sending shockwaves through the local community. According to Police Chief Scott Wahl, the attack, which began around 11:40 a.m. local time, is being investigated as a hate crime.
Among the victims was a mosque security guard who was killed while on duty. While the center also serves as a school, authorities have confirmed that all children present during the incident are safe.
Investigation and Motives
The perpetrators, two teenagers aged 17 and 19, both died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. Investigators discovered a suicide note left by one of the suspects containing writings centered on racial pride. Furthermore, hate speech was found scrawled on one of the firearms used in the attack.
The Islamic Center of San Diego has announced its closure until further notice, describing the event as an "extremely painful and traumatic day" for its congregation, staff, and students.

California Governor Gavin Newsom's office confirmed that the governor has been briefed on the situation and expressed gratitude toward the first responders who managed the scene.
Though no additional threats have been identified, the incident has prompted a wave of precautionary security measures across the United States. Police departments in New York City, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and Los Angeles have all announced increased patrols at mosques and other houses of worship to ensure the safety of their residents.
