Philippine House Panel Clears Path for VP Impeachment Vote

The Committee on Justice of the House of Representatives of the Philippines on Monday formally adopted a report finding probable cause to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte.

During its hearing, the 55‑member panel unanimously approved the committee report, the corresponding resolution, and the Articles of Impeachment.

The documents will now be transmitted to the House of Representatives for a plenary vote, where lawmakers are expected to decide whether to endorse the complaint and send it to the Senate for trial.

Impeachment proceedings in the Philippines require a majority vote in the House before the case moves to the Senate, which then acts as an impeachment court. This step marks a critical juncture in the nation’s political process, potentially reshaping the balance of power in the executive branch.
