China Urges International Vigilance Against Japanese Neo-Militarism

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has called on the international community to remain highly vigilant and collaborate to prevent and curb the rise of neo-militarism in Japan.

This stance was articulated by spokesperson Lin Jian during a press briefing on Monday, following recent discussions at the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue 2026 in Singapore. During the security forum, Japan's minister of defense rejected claims and labels describing Japan as a "neo-militarist" country.

Responding to these assertions, Lin Jian stated that the Japanese official's remarks were "totally groundless," citing history, legal grounds, and specific facts and figures on the matter. He emphasized that such a position makes it impossible for Japan to earn the necessary trust of its Asian neighbors and the broader international community.

As regional security dynamics evolve, the call for historical accountability and vigilance remains a critical point of contention in maintaining stability across the Asia-Pacific region.
