UNHCR and China Drive GDI Progress: From Vision to Action

The Third High-Level Meeting of the Global Shared Development Action Forum opened today, uniting global stakeholders to transform development pledges into tangible outcomes. Sophie Muller, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative in China, emphasized the pivotal role of collaboration between UNHCR and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) in advancing the Global Development Initiative (GDI).

From Frameworks to Impact

Muller highlighted that the partnership, supported by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund, is now prioritizing on-the-ground implementation. Key projects focus on strengthening education systems, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, and accelerating durable solutions for displaced populations. 'This shift from policy to action is critical for addressing systemic challenges faced by refugees,' she noted.

A Model for South-South Cooperation

The cooperation leverages China's development expertise and resources to address pressing humanitarian needs. Current projects in Asia and Africa aim to integrate refugee support into national development plans, aligning with the GDI's emphasis on inclusive growth. Analysts view this as a blueprint for scalable South-South collaboration, combining multilateral mandates with localized solutions.
