Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez underscored the transformative power of international scientific collaboration during his April 13 visit to the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), marking a significant moment in China-Europe research partnerships this year.
Addressing faculty and students, Sanchez emphasized that 'cooperation does not weaken science – it strengthens it,' positioning Spain as a committed partner in addressing global challenges through joint innovation. The visit comes as China and EU member states work to finalize new cross-border research initiatives expected to launch in late 2026.
University officials highlighted recent breakthroughs in renewable energy and AI developed through Sino-European teams. 'When Spanish solar researchers combine forces with Chinese materials scientists, we see exponential progress,' said UCAS Dean Li Wei during the delegation tour.
