China Leads Global Power Capacity with Clean Energy Surge in 2026

China has solidified its position as the world's largest power producer, with its total installed capacity reaching nearly 4 billion kilowatts in the first quarter of 2026—triple that of the U.S.—according to state broadcaster CCTV. Clean energy sources, including hydropower, nuclear, wind, and solar, generated 0.7 trillion kilowatt-hours during this period, marking a 2.8% year-on-year increase and accounting for 33.2% of industrial power output.

In a groundbreaking move, the Chinese mainland launched its first hydrogen-blended natural gas pilot project in Weifang, Shandong Province. The initiative, designed to serve 100,000 households, uses existing pipelines with a 10% hydrogen mix. Officials estimate it could replace 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually while reducing CO2 emissions by 30 million tonnes.

Meanwhile, the 139th Canton Fair's Phase I concluded this week, spotlighting advanced manufacturing with participation from over 5,900 high-tech firms and specialized 'little giant' enterprises. Phase II, set to begin on April 23, will focus on 'quality homeware,' featuring innovations in green building materials and smart home technologies.
