China’s Table Tennis Powerhouses Secure Quarterfinal Berths at 2026 ITTF World Championships

In a display of skill and resilience, the Chinese table tennis teams have firmly established their presence at the 2026 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championship Finals, with both the men's and women's squads securing their places in the quarterfinals.

Men's Team: Wang Chuqin Leads the Charge

The men's competition saw a dramatic encounter between China and Romania on Wednesday. The match began with an unexpected challenge for the Chinese side, as Liang Jingkun fell to Romania's top-ranked player, Eduard Ionescu, in a straight-set defeat (11-5, 11-7, 11-6).

However, the world No. 1, Wang Chuqin, stepped in to restore order. Facing Iulian Chirita, Wang demonstrated his championship composure, overcoming a second-game deficit to secure a decisive victory (11-5, 12-10, 11-5). Lin Shidong further solidified China's lead by comfortably dispatching Ovidiu Ionescu with a score of 11-9, 11-6, 11-4.

The tie concluded with a final clash between Wang Chuqin and Ovidiu Ionescu. While Ionescu managed to push back in the second game, Wang's dominance proved overwhelming in the closing stages, winning the final two games 11-3 and 11-4 to seal a 3-1 overall victory for China.

Women's Team: A Flawless Sweep

While the men's path involved a battle of nerves, the Chinese women's team provided a masterclass in dominance. Facing Sweden in the round of 16, the Chinese squad achieved a comprehensive 3-0 sweep without dropping a single game.

Sun Yingsha opened the match with a commanding win over Linda Bergstrom (11-3, 11-4, 11-4). Wang Manyu followed with a near-perfect performance against Christina Kallberg, conceding only eight points across three games (11-5, 11-0, 11-3). The victory was completed by Wang Yidi, who outplayed Filippa Bergand 11-7, 11-4, 11-4 in their first-ever head-to-head meeting.

The Road Ahead

The quarterfinals promise high-stakes drama, as both the Chinese men's and women's teams are set to face the Republic of Korea. The ROK women's team enters the matchup with significant momentum after a strong 3-1 victory over Singapore.
