Wang Yi to Chair High-Level UN Security Council Meeting and Visit Canada

As the rotating president of the UN Security Council for May 2026, China is set to lead a pivotal high-level meeting aimed at reinforcing the foundations of international diplomacy. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will chair the session in New York on May 26.

The upcoming meeting will focus on the theme "Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centered International System." This initiative underscores the importance of maintaining a stable, rules-based global order and enhancing the effectiveness of the United Nations in addressing contemporary global challenges.

In addition to the Security Council session, Minister Wang Yi will remain in New York to attend the meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance on May 28. His schedule also includes high-level discussions with the UN Secretary General and various foreign ministers, highlighting the ongoing efforts to coordinate international cooperation.

Following his engagements in New York, Minister Wang Yi will visit Canada from May 28 to 30. The visit, conducted at the invitation of Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand, provides a significant platform for the two nations to engage in diplomatic dialogue and strengthen bilateral ties.
