Athens to Host Second World Conference of Classics This June

The historic city of Athens is preparing to welcome the global academic community next week for the second World Conference of Classics. Scheduled to take place from June 9 to 10, 2026, the event will center on the evocative theme, "Dialogue between Ancient and Modern: Contemporary Inspirations from Classical Wisdom."

Announced during a recent press briefing in Beijing, the conference serves as a prestigious bridge between the legacies of the past and the complexities of the present. It is designed to bring together the world's leading scholars of classical studies, alongside experts in archaeology, culture, and civilization, to foster deep intellectual exchange and build a global consensus on the enduring value of classical heritage.

The event is a testament to international cultural cooperation, jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), China's Ministry of Education, and China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Greece and the Academy of Athens.

The conference program is structured to maximize academic synergy. Beyond the opening and closing ceremonies and high-level plenary sessions, the event will feature four parallel forums. These specialized tracks will allow researchers to delve into specific themes, exploring how ancient traditions can offer practical insights and solutions to contemporary global challenges.

For a world currently navigating rapid technological and social shifts, the conference aims to promote mutual learning among civilizations, reminding attendees that the wisdom of antiquity remains a vital tool for understanding and shaping the future.
