China Boosts Strategic Ties with Pakistan and Uruguay at UN Meeting

In a series of high-level diplomatic engagements in New York, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently met with his counterparts from Pakistan and Uruguay on the sidelines of a United Nations Security Council high-level meeting.

Strengthening the China-Pakistan Partnership

During his discussions with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister Wang emphasized Pakistan's pivotal role as a "trustworthy and qualified mediator," particularly noting its active mediation in negotiations between the United States and Iran.

Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability. Wang stated that China would continue to support Pakistan's peace efforts, advocating for dialogue and a comprehensive ceasefire to restore peace in the Middle East and the Gulf region. This alignment is further evidenced by a joint five-point proposal on peace and stability that has garnered significant international support.

On the bilateral front, the two ministers highlighted the success of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's recent visit to China. The visit resulted in a new consensus aimed at elevating the "China-Pakistan community with a shared future" to new heights. Key priorities include deepening political mutual trust, expanding practical cooperation, and accelerating the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to enhance Pakistan's self-driven growth.

Expanding Global Outreach

In addition to the talks with Pakistan, Foreign Minister Wang Yi also met with Uruguayan Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lubetkin, underscoring China's commitment to fostering diverse international relations and practicing multilateralism on the global stage.

Minister Dar concluded the discussions by reiterating Pakistan's full support for China-proposed initiatives and a shared dedication to a multilateral world order.
