China and Pakistan Align on Middle East Peace and Strategic Partnership in New York

In a significant diplomatic encounter in New York, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar met this week to exchange views on critical regional security issues and the trajectory of their bilateral relations.

Driving Peace in the Middle East

A primary focus of the discussions was the ongoing situation in Iran. Minister Wang Yi, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, lauded Pakistan's active role in mediating US-Iran negotiations. He described Pakistan as a "trustworthy and qualified mediator," underscoring China's commitment to supporting Pakistan's peace initiatives.

The two officials emphasized the necessity of dialogue and negotiation to secure a comprehensive ceasefire, aiming to restore stability to the Middle East and the Gulf region. Minister Dar highlighted a joint five-point proposal put forward by China and Pakistan regarding peace and stability in the region, noting that the initiative has already garnered broad international support. Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to playing a constructive role in de-escalating regional tensions.

Elevating the China-Pakistan Partnership

Beyond regional security, the meeting served as a platform to solidify the "all-weather strategic cooperative partnership" between the two nations. Minister Wang referenced the recent successful visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to China, noting that the leadership of both countries has reached a new consensus to elevate the construction of a China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

China expressed its readiness to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen political mutual trust, and expand practical cooperation to enhance Pakistan's capacity for self-driven development. The goal is to accelerate the building of an even closer community with a shared future in the new era.

Economic Integration and Multilateralism

Deputy Prime Minister Dar echoed these sentiments, stressing Pakistan's dedication to implementing the consensus reached during Prime Minister Sharif's visit. Key priorities include the alignment of development strategies and the continued advancement of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a cornerstone of bilateral economic cooperation.

Concluding the meeting, Dar affirmed that Pakistan will continue to fully support China-proposed initiatives and work closely with Beijing to practice and promote multilateralism on the global stage.
