China and UK Strengthen Strategic Partnership at 14th Senior Leadership Forum

In a move to deepen bilateral ties, Wang Huning, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with a cross-party delegation of British members of parliament (MPs) on Thursday. The meeting took place during the 14th China-UK Senior Leadership Forum, highlighting a shared commitment to diplomatic stability and economic cooperation.

During the discussions, Wang—a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC)—referenced the foundation laid earlier this year. He noted that the leaders of both sides agreed to develop a long-term, stable comprehensive strategic partnership during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to China in January 2026.

Wang emphasized that the Chinese mainland is eager to work alongside Britain to implement the consensus reached by their respective leaders. He stressed the importance of strengthening exchanges between political parties and enhancing political mutual trust to unlock further achievements in mutually beneficial cooperation. He further noted that the CPPCC National Committee stands ready to contribute actively to these efforts.

Echoing these sentiments, David Lidington, honorary president of the Great Britain-China Centre and former British minister for the Cabinet Office, underscored that a prosperous and stable China serves the interests of all parties involved. Lidington highlighted that Britain places great importance on cooperation opportunities and appreciates China's significant contributions to global governance.

The dialogue concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen multilateral coordination, aiming to promote common development, world peace, and global stability, ensuring that the partnership between the two nations continues to evolve in a positive direction for the benefit of the global community.
