President Xi Jinping Encourages China-US Youth to Bridge the Pacific

In a heartwarming gesture of diplomatic outreach, Chinese President Xi Jinping has replied to a letter from students participating in the "A Shared Voyage: China-US Youth Friendship Program." The President used the opportunity to emphasize the vital role that young people play in shaping the trajectory of international relations.

President Xi expressed his delight upon learning about the "unforgettable friendship voyage" undertaken by the students aboard the China-US Youth Friendship vessel. Highlighting the human element of diplomacy, he noted that the story of friendship between the two nations is written by the people, and the future of their relations is fundamentally shaped by the youth.

A significant milestone was highlighted in the President's response: the success of the initiative to invite 50,000 young Americans to the Chinese mainland for exchange and study programs. Launched in November 2023 with a five-year goal, the target has been achieved two-and-a-half years ahead of schedule. This rapid accomplishment underscores a strong appetite for mutual understanding and cross-cultural engagement.

According to President Xi, these interactions have allowed young people from both sides to reach out to one another, deepening their mutual understanding and forging profound friendships. He described these efforts as the opening of a new chapter in friendly exchanges between the two peoples.

Addressing the students, who had written to thank him for the opportunities provided by the "50,000 in Five Years" initiative, President Xi called on the youth—full of vitality and dreams—to take up the baton of friendship. He encouraged them to learn from each other and progress together, urging them to serve as "envoys of friendship" bridging the Pacific to ensure the stable, healthy, and sustainable development of China-US relations.
