In a poignant exchange marking International Children's Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called upon the younger generation to inherit and carry forward the revolutionary traditions of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The call came in a reply letter addressed to student docents serving as volunteers at two pivotal historical sites: the Memorial Hall of the First National Congress of the CPC in Shanghai and the Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Museum in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province.
The Young Pioneers had previously written to President Xi, detailing their experiences as guides. They shared the insights gained from recounting the Party's early history, heroic deeds, and the struggles of its founders to visitors.
Writing on Saturday, President Xi expressed his satisfaction that these students have developed a deep affection for the Party, the country, and socialism through their volunteer work. He emphasized that this year marks the 105th anniversary of the CPC, noting that the Party's cause requires continuous effort across different generations.
President Xi encouraged the students to build their knowledge, enhance their capabilities, and strengthen their characters, urging them to carry the baton of history forward on the new journey.
This initiative is part of a broader nationwide effort launched in 2021, which encourages Young Pioneers to immerse themselves in the study of Party history and share these narratives at revolutionary memorial venues.
The historical significance of these sites dates back to July 1921, when the First National Congress of the CPC convened in Shanghai. The meeting later concluded on a boat on Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing—now known as the "Red Boat"—where the Party's first program and resolutions were adopted, laying the foundation for the modern Chinese state.
