China’s Wang Yi Advocates for Strategic Stability in US Relations

During a recent visit to New York to preside over a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized China's readiness to collaborate with the United States to establish a constructive relationship based on strategic stability.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, shared these insights during discussions with representatives from US business and strategic circles. He highlighted that the relationship between China and the US extends beyond bilateral interests, noting that its trajectory significantly impacts global peace and the future of humanity.

According to Wang, the international community shares a collective expectation for a healthy, stable, and sustainable development of ties between the two nations. He recalled a historic meeting in Beijing where the heads of state agreed to designate a "constructive relationship of strategic stability" as the new positioning for their bilateral interactions, seeking a modern framework for how major powers should engage in the new era.

To achieve this, Wang suggested that both sides must align their directions, effectively manage their differences, and prioritize expanding areas of cooperation while reducing the list of contentious issues.

Addressing critical regional concerns, Wang asserted that "Taiwan independence" is fundamentally incompatible with peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. He stressed that safeguarding peace and avoiding conflict in the region depends entirely on adhering to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques.
