China-US Ties: Wang Yi Urges “Strategic Stability” for Global Peace

In a move that underscores the critical nature of the world's two largest economies maintaining a balanced rapport, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for the United States to take concrete actions to establish a "constructive relationship of strategic stability."

Speaking recently in New York during his visit to preside over a United Nations Security Council high-level meeting, Wang—who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee—engaged with representatives from U.S. strategic and business circles to discuss the future of bilateral ties.

Wang emphasized that the relationship between China and the United States transcends simple bilateral interests. He noted that its health and sustainability are not only a shared expectation of the international community but a mission that both nations are duty-bound to fulfill, given the profound impact these ties have on global peace and the future of humanity.

The Foreign Minister highlighted a historic meeting held in Beijing between the heads of state of both countries. During those talks, an agreement was reached to position bilateral ties around a constructive relationship of strategic stability, exploring new ways for major powers to interact in the modern era.

According to Wang, the path forward requires both sides to move in the same direction. He advocated for the effective management of differences, urging both nations to shorten the list of points of contention while expanding the scope of their cooperation.

Addressing the sensitive issue of the Taiwan Strait, Wang stated that "Taiwan independence" is fundamentally incompatible with peace and stability in the region. He reaffirmed that adhering to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques is the only way to safeguard peace and avert conflict and confrontation across the Taiwan Strait.
