China and Kazakhstan Strengthen Strategic Ties During Top Legislator’s Visit

In a significant move to deepen diplomatic and economic ties, China's top legislator, Zhao Leji, recently concluded an official goodwill visit to Kazakhstan. The visit, which took place from Monday to Wednesday, underscored a shared vision of stability and mutual growth between the two nations.

During his time in Astana, Zhao, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, engaged in high-level discussions with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as well as the leadership of Kazakhstan's Senate and the Mazhilis. These meetings served as a platform to reinforce the strategic alignment of the two countries' development goals.

Expanding the Economic Horizon

A central theme of the talks was the advancement of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. Zhao emphasized the need to consolidate traditional cooperation in energy, minerals, and connectivity while pivoting toward the future. The two sides are looking to forge new partnerships in cutting-edge sectors, including artificial intelligence, the digital economy, new energy, cross-border e-commerce, and smart city development.

Beyond infrastructure and technology, the visit highlighted the importance of people-to-people connections. Zhao expressed China's commitment to making the China-Kazakhstan Year of Cultural Exchange a resounding success, fostering deeper understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Global Coordination and Shared Values

On the geopolitical stage, both nations pledged to coordinate closely within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and the China-Central Asia mechanism. These efforts are aimed at safeguarding common interests and promoting international fairness and justice.

President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan's unwavering adherence to the one-China principle and expressed strong support for the four major global initiatives and the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, both proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

As the legislative bodies of both nations continue to deepen their cooperation, this visit marks another milestone in the evolving partnership, positioning China and Kazakhstan as steadfast neighbors and partners in an increasingly complex global landscape.
