In a series of high-level diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of a United Nations Security Council meeting this Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the urgent need for stability in the Middle East and the strengthening of multilateral partnerships across Asia.
Pushing for Peace in the Gulf
During a meeting with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Wang Yi called for a comprehensive and durable ceasefire in the Gulf region. Highlighting China's role as a dedicated friend and partner to Gulf nations, the Foreign Minister expressed a sincere hope that the Middle East would return to a state of peace and tranquility as soon as possible.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, remarked that the current conflicts should not have occurred and there is no justification for them to persist. He stressed that the international community must double its efforts to promote de-escalation and firmly oppose any actions that "fan the flames" or intensify regional tensions.
To achieve a political settlement, Wang stated that China supports the mediation efforts led by Pakistan and other involved nations. He further noted that China is prepared to coordinate closely with Bahrain and other Security Council members to ensure the council remains focused on securing a lasting peace.
In response, Minister Al Zayani expressed Bahrain's appreciation for China's proactive role in promoting peace and a ceasefire in the Middle East and the Gulf, voicing hope that China will continue to expand its influential role in the region.
Deepening Ties with Indonesia
Beyond the Gulf crisis, Minister Wang also met with his Indonesian counterpart, Sugiono. The two diplomats agreed to intensify high-level exchanges and bolster multilateral collaboration. Both sides committed to further developing bilateral relations, reflecting a shared goal of enhancing cooperation within the broader Asian geopolitical and economic landscape.
These meetings underscore China's ongoing diplomatic strategy to act as a stabilizer in global conflicts while simultaneously deepening strategic ties with key regional partners in Asia.
